'Life in Australia'

Component identifier:
Series 16
Content Summary:

In 1947, McGuire began discussions with Oxford University Press about editing a series on Australian social history. Although the project never fully materialised, two books were published (The Australian Theatre and Inns of Australia) with the research assistance of Frances McGuire and Betty Arnott.

The series comprises files of research materials annotated with the working title 'Life in Australia'. The files contain notes, excerpts from publications, newspaper cuttings and printed material and are arranged alphabetically.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The collection was donated to the Library by Frances McGuire in 1980, 1984 and 1993. A small quantity of material from the 1980 instalment was purchased by the Library. Paul McGuire destroyed parts of his papers (particularly relating to the 1939-45 War) shortly before his death.
