A substantial series of notebooks kept by McGuire to record drafts of poetry, articles, talks, letters and other writings. Other notebooks contain jottings, calculations, shorthand passages, bibliographic references, travel notes (including notes made in England, Spain and Paris) and lecture notes. Some of the notebooks contain enclosures such as letters, cuttings and typescripts.
In general the notebooks are difficult to read and poorly dated and identified.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The collection was donated to the Library by Frances McGuire in 1980, 1984 and 1993. A small quantity of material from the 1980 instalment was purchased by the Library. Paul McGuire destroyed parts of his papers (particularly relating to the 1939-45 War) shortly before his death.
