Molony's docotoral thesis, An architect of freedom: John Hubert Plunkett in New South Wales, 1832-1869, was published by Australian National University Press, Canberra, in 1973. The book details the life and work of Plunkett, who was appointed Attorney-General in New South Wales in 1836, and who was a leading figure throughout the period of transition from a penal to a self-governing colony.

Included in this series are research notes, correspondence, a small amount of typescript, galley proofs and reviews.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The bulk of the papers were acquired from John Molony in 1998, under the Taxation Incentives for the Arts Scheme (TIAS). Three earlier small consignments were received from Molony - two donated in 1981 and 1985 and one acquired under the TIAS in 1989.
