This small group of papers consists of speeches, notes for speeches and related correspondence. Included are a bound copy of selected addresses and loose copies of speeches made during his period as Chairman of the Public Service Board for the period 1962-70, a speech presented as Secretary to the Treasury in 1972, notes for speeches made at functions for his retirement from the Treasury in 1978 and notes for occasional speeches made after his retirement.
There are also papers relating to Wheeler's presentation for the Robert Garran Memorial Oration in 1979, entitled 'The professional career public service: some reflections of a practitioner'. They include correspondence, notes and copies of the published text of his speech, which appeared in the Australian Journal of Public Administration.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The papers were acquired by the Library in two instalments. The first was received from Sir Frederick Wheeler in 1971 and the second from his son Philip Wheeler in 1995.
