Content Summary:
These are the complete legal documents for Ingram's challenge. Because of his concern for the role of law in the maintenance of international peace and security, Ingram explored the semantics of the SALT Treaty and challenged its legality in the High Court of Australia in 1980. This is recorded in J. G. Starke's Introduction to international law as the first such action in any jurisdiction. The documents, which date from 1979-82 include correspondence, memoranda, cuttings and court transcripts, advice from Starke, and the 'Statement of grievance on the part of a private person against the signatories and parties to the Agreements...'.
Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were purchased from Geoffrey Ingram by the National Library in several instalments between 1987 and 1993. Two further additions were donated by Ingram in 1997 and 1998.
