- Eugen Sandow (2 April 1867 - 14 October 1925) was born Friedrich Wilhelm Müller, and was a German pioneering bodybuilder known as the "father of modern bodybuilding". He was born in Königsberg, Prussia (now Kaliningrad, Russia) and left in 1885 to avoid military service, travelling throughout Europe, becoming a circus athlete and adopting Eugen Sandow as his stage name.
