Extent:
Manuscript conveyance of a second parcel of land in Richmond, NSW, from Small to John Dight, dated Richmond, 15 August 1809. Manuscript in ink on single sheet, approx. 307 x 200 mm, signed by William Small and two witnesses, laid paper watermarked "T.W.B. Buffield," with part of the original red wax seal; a little browned along the folds, very good.
Content Summary:
William Small, a free settler who emigrated on the Canada in 1801, held land as part of a 100-acre grant (in February 1802). The section for the sale to Dight is an area bounded by the Commons to the south-east and by the Government Road to the north-east, near the grant of William Bowman. The grant particularly notices that Dight will have access to the Lagoon in case the Road is later "occupied by a Bridge, made a Thoroughfare, or any other way rendered unfit for the above purposes." Interestingly, the payment was to be made initially by the transfer of only sixpence, with Dight agreeing to work off the residual by allowing his team of oxen and driver to help on Small's farm.
