- This consignment comprises two scrapbooks with compilations of materials relating to Algernon Hawkins Thomond Keith-Falconer, the 9th Earl of Kintore, who served as the Governor of South Australia between 1889 and 1895. Materials within the scrapbooks include letters, photographs, ephemera such as certificates and invitations to important international events, seating plans for official dinners and materials relating to the British Monarchy, Keith-Falconer's role as governor, and the wider issues of Australian federation. A member of the British elite, Keith-Falconer was unsuccessful in his bid to become the conservative candidate for Chelsea, though went on to become a First Government Whip, a Lord-in-Waiting, a Privy Counsellor, and eventually Deputy speaker in the House of Lords. He was Governor of South Australia for six years, and as a Freemason was Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of South Australia during his term as governor. Keith-Falconer would become interested in Federation and supported the Australasian Federal Convention in Melbourne in 1890.
