Child endowment was first introduced by the Lang Government in New South Wales in 1927 and became a contentious issue in both State and Federal politics. This small series contains Acts, Bills, the report of the 1927 Premiers' Conference, and statements by the Victorian Chamber of Manufacturers, T. R. Bavin, Sir Thomas Henley, and A. B. Piddington. There are also handwritten notes by Latham on child endowment, draft terms of reference for a Royal Commission on child endowment, notes on the proposed Royal Commission, typescript memoranda on child endowment (February-March 1927), statistics prepared for the 1927 Premiers Conference, and a few newscuttings.

- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The bulk of the collection was presented to the National Library by Sir John Latham in December 1963, a few months before his death. In November 1974 the Library purchased some further papers from a secondhand book dealer. They comprised family letters and photographs, some diaries and papers relating to the High Court. These papers have been amalgamated into the original collection.
