Content Summary:

At the general election held on 17 November 1928 the coalition parties lost eight seats but retained power. This small series contains booklets and leaflets, including S. M. Bruce's policy speech and Facts about the Bruce-Page Government, a roneoed copy of a speech delivered by Latham at Hawthorn (17 October 1928), notes on polling booths and the number of electors in the Kooyong electorate, and notes for speeches, dealing particularly with the Financial Agreement, migration, industrial relations, and the 1928 Arbitration Act. There are also a few letters, including one by Latham on industrial relations policy for the campaign handbook.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The bulk of the collection was presented to the National Library by Sir John Latham in December 1963, a few months before his death. In November 1974 the Library purchased some further papers from a secondhand book dealer. They comprised family letters and photographs, some diaries and papers relating to the High Court. These papers have been amalgamated into the original collection.
