- Series 79
- Content Summary:
-
The Save the Dandenongs League was formed in 1951 to oppose the further destruction of forests and beauty spots in the Dandenong Mountains. Latham, who had a house in the Dandenongs, was a patron. The correspondence dates from May 1951-January 1962 and is mostly with May Moon, Professor J. S. Turner and Henry Bolte, concerning relations with Government departments and the Fern Tree Gully Council, the League's opposition to the construction of a factory at Ferny Creek, the management of Sherbrooke Forest, and objections to the Lilydale Planning Scheme. There is also a printed memorandum issued by the League in April 1953 and resolutions of meetings.
Comprises File 1 (Items 1-103).
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The bulk of the collection was presented to the National Library by Sir John Latham in December 1963, a few months before his death. In November 1974 the Library purchased some further papers from a secondhand book dealer. They comprised family letters and photographs, some diaries and papers relating to the High Court. These papers have been amalgamated into the original collection.
