Cards, invitations, menus, programs and other items of ephemera relating to the many ceremonies, dinners, receptions, royal visits and official functions that Symon attended in Australia and overseas during his careeer.
The series also includes tickets, railway passes and meal vouchers for Symon and Lady Symon to attend the opening of Parliament House in Canberra on 9 May 1927. These items are accompanied by a small black wallet holder specially made for the occasion.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The papers were received by the Library between 1966 and 1968 from Sir Josiah Symon's literary executor and daughter, Miss L. K. (Kilmeny) Symon. In December 1980 Sir Josiah's Commonwealth railway life pass was donated to the Library by the State Library of South Australia on behalf of a donor who was living in the house previously owned by Kilmeny Symon and had found the pass in a crack in the flooring.
