Knight Commander of St Michael and St George (KCMG), 1891-1934

Component identifier:
Series 22
Content Summary:
Joseph Chamberlain's letter informing Symon of his appointment as a Knight Commander of St Michael and St George (KCMG), together with Symon's reply. Many letters and telegrams of congratulations are to be found in the letter book for this period in Series 1. In 1917 Symon became eligible by seniority for a seat in the Chapel of the Order, and correspondence concerning this, and the coat of arms affixed to the seat, also appears in this series.
Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were received by the Library between 1966 and 1968 from Sir Josiah Symon's literary executor and daughter, Miss L. K. (Kilmeny) Symon. In December 1980 Sir Josiah's Commonwealth railway life pass was donated to the Library by the State Library of South Australia on behalf of a donor who was living in the house previously owned by Kilmeny Symon and had found the pass in a crack in the flooring.
