Miscellaneous manuscripts, 1865-1933

Component identifier:
Series 31
Content Summary:

Miscellaneous notes on a wide variety of subjects. They include manuscript notes by Symon (mostly undated) and typed extracts from books, journals and newspapers (usually dated). Some of the notes also appear to be drafts for articles and speeches.

The date ranges assigned to most of the folders in this series have been based on the dates of the typed extracts and dates appearing in notes and in some cases may not accurately reflect the period that Symon was creating these records.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were received by the Library between 1966 and 1968 from Sir Josiah Symon's literary executor and daughter, Miss L. K. (Kilmeny) Symon. In December 1980 Sir Josiah's Commonwealth railway life pass was donated to the Library by the State Library of South Australia on behalf of a donor who was living in the house previously owned by Kilmeny Symon and had found the pass in a crack in the flooring.
