Sawer was admitted to practice at the Victorian Bar in 1937. He used this fee book to record details of the solicitors, defendants and costs applying to each case. The book opens on the 29 September 1937, and the entries which list briefs completed, opinions given and affidavits issued continue to 10 July 1940.
In later years Sawer used a blank section of the volume to maintain an extensive list of titles in the Penguin series of paperback books. The last page also contains broadcast notes associated with Sawer's war service with Radio Australia (Series 4).

- The papers were donated to the Library by Sawer and his wife Nancy in four instalments in 1971, 1995, 1996 and 1998.
