Content Summary:
In 1974 Sawer provided counsel to the Federal Attorney-General's Department on the validity of the Queensland Appeals and Special Reference Act, 1973. The matter, which had been filed with the Supreme Court of Queensland in on 3 July 1974, questioned the Act's power to preserve judicial appeals to the Privy Council in state affairs. Included in this series are draft notes, copies of relevant cases and legislation, and Sawer's typed brief to the Department.
Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were donated to the Library by Sawer and his wife Nancy in four instalments in 1971, 1995, 1996 and 1998.
