- Between November 1971 and May 1972 Sawer was interviewed by the journalist Mel Pratt on aspects of his life and career for the National Library of Australia. Filed in this series are copies of the transcript of the original recording, in which Sawer reflects on aspects of law in Australia, and on a number of influential figures such as Prime Minister Ben Chifley and H.V. Evatt. Also filed in this series are four cassette recordings of a 1990 interview with Sawer made by Daniel Connell.

- The papers were donated to the Library by Sawer and his wife Nancy in four instalments in 1971, 1995, 1996 and 1998.
