Content Summary:
Copland received honorary doctorates of Law or Literature from the Universities of Melbourne, Tasmania, and Queensland, and from Harvard, McGill, the Australian National University, Clark, Carleton, Adelaide, and Bishop's Universities. The certificates relating to most of these awards are in Series 5, together with his two degrees from the University of New Zealand. Also included are documents relating to military service, 1915-1917, some passports, an official letter of introduction, 1933, and a Christchurch Training College certificate, 1914. The letter patent authorising attendance at the 1933 League of Nations 14th Assembly is in Series 25. Correspondence concerning the C.M.G. and K.B.E. Awards is in Series 93.
Immediate source of acquisition:
Lady Copland presented the personal papers of Sir Douglas Copland to the National Library in September 1973. Additions to the collection were received from the Copland Family between 1977 and 1981.
