Before proceeding to the Institute of Labour Studies, Geneva, Copland attended an international conference on technical assistance and development promotion. The conference was held in Berlin during February 1961.

The subject was of special interest to Copland given his work with the United Nations Economic and Social Council and writings on underdevelopment in Third World countries. Series 43 contains just a few items indicating Copland's presence at the conference. These are agenda, copies of some conference papers, a few notes in Copland's hand, and one or two publications such as a Ford Foundation leaflet titled Overseas development program, 1960. There is no correspondence.

Immediate source of acquisition:
Lady Copland presented the personal papers of Sir Douglas Copland to the National Library in September 1973. Additions to the collection were received from the Copland Family between 1977 and 1981.
