Australian League of Nations Union, 1920-1939
- Component identifier:
- Series 49
- Content Summary:
-
Like their parent organisation in London, State branches of the Australian League of Nations Union were formed in the early 1920s to promote the ideals and publicise the work of the League of Nations. Consistent with his interest in international affairs and belief in disarmament, Copland was an active member of the Victorian Branch. At various times during the 1920s and 1930s he served on its Executive Committee and General Council.
The Copland papers contain a small number of documents of the League and Victorian Branch and they have been colleted to form Series 49. There are a variety of items ranging from press articles by Copland on the League, drafts of the constitution, some circulars, agenda, and minutes of General Council, to publications and correspondence. Most of the correspondence was conducted with Victorian Branch officials, such as A. Constance Duncan, P.D. Phillips, and E. Maggs.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- Lady Copland presented the personal papers of Sir Douglas Copland to the National Library in September 1973. Additions to the collection were received from the Copland Family between 1977 and 1981.
