In 1919 the Australian National Research Council (A.N.R.C.) was formed as part of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science to represent Australia on the International Research Council, promote scientific research and act as an academy of science. Copland was elected as an Associate Member in 1927 and became a member of the Executive Committee in 1930. During this period, he also began contributing to the Council's Australian Science Abstracts as an Honorary Abstractor in Economics.
Series 54 brings together the small group of A.N.R.C. items in the collection. There are some copies of Executive Committee minutes, 1927-1932, rules, lists of members, reports of meetings, agenda, and correspondence. The letter includes exchanges with an editor of Australian Science Abstracts, Dr A.B. Walkom and with other A.N.R.C. office-bearers, G.A. Waterhouse, F.R.E. Mauldon, A.J. Gibson, and A.B. Gibson.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- Lady Copland presented the personal papers of Sir Douglas Copland to the National Library in September 1973. Additions to the collection were received from the Copland Family between 1977 and 1981.
