- Component identifier:
- Series 60
- Content Summary:
-
The Victorian Council for Mental Hygiene was formed in Melbourne in 1930 to promote policies, such as the teaching of psychological medicine in the universities, the institutional care of delinquents, the establishment of child guidance centres, and training courses for social workers. Copland was elected to the Council's inaugural General Committee in 1930 but resigned in November the following year because of pressure of work.
The few Council Executive Committee reports, Council circulars, and correspondence in the Copland papers make up Series 60.
The Institute of Educational Research, Victoria was also interested in mental hygiene, although not exclusively, and Copland was one of its members. There is a brief description of the material in the collection on the Institute in the following series.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- Lady Copland presented the personal papers of Sir Douglas Copland to the National Library in September 1973. Additions to the collection were received from the Copland Family between 1977 and 1981.
