Australian Productivity Council, 1959-1962

Component identifier:
Series 62
Content Summary:

The Australian Productivity Council (A.P.C.) was formed in 1959, with Copland as its first Chairman, to promote higher productivity in industry and government.

Series 62 illustrates some of the Council's activities during its first four years and of the part Copland played. There are, for example, copies of a number of papers presented to conferences on productivity organised by the Council. These include addresses by Copland and Professor P.L. Henderson to conferences at the University of Melbourne and Orange in 1959. The first two annual conferences on productivity in 1961 and 1962 are also covered. For Copland's part, there is correspondence with the Council's Executive-Director Professor Henderson, with other Council Committee men, and with the Prime Minister R.G. Menzies in addition to Copland's copies of some Council Committee Agenda and Minutes. Finally, the series has copies of some A.P.C. publications like its journal Productivity, lists of Council members, memoranda, and a copy of the Council's memorandum of association.

Immediate source of acquisition:
Lady Copland presented the personal papers of Sir Douglas Copland to the National Library in September 1973. Additions to the collection were received from the Copland Family between 1977 and 1981.
