Material in Series 67 derives from Copland's membership of the Immigration Planning council from its creation in 1949 to 1968. It includes correspondence and telegrams with various council chairmen, such as E.N. Drury, A.R. Downer, David Fairbairn, Billy Snedden, and other department men such as Sir Tasman Heyes and R.R. Heydon. There are also Council minutes and agenda, Department of Immigration bulletins, statistics and estimates, ministerial press releases, speeches, notes, and copies of the Inter-governmental Committee on European Migration publication International migration. There are also papers on a number of Australian citizenship conventions, a Council subcommittee that in 1962 examined migration, and the professions in Australia.
Additional Inter-governmental Committee on European Migration papers relating specifically to the 5th Session meeting in Geneva in April 1953 forms Series 35. Financial papers documenting Copland's reimbursement for membership of the Council and travel to its meetings are in Series 4.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- Lady Copland presented the personal papers of Sir Douglas Copland to the National Library in September 1973. Additions to the collection were received from the Copland Family between 1977 and 1981.
