National Obsolescence Council, 1958-1961, 1966

Component identifier:
Series 68
Content Summary:

The National Obsolescence Council (N.O.C.) was formed in 1958 at a forum on obsolescence organised by the Victorian Employers' Federation and the Master Builders' Federation of Australia. As its name suggests, the N.O.C. was intended to focus attention on the importance of obsolescence in the national economy and to seek taxation measures to allow for depreciation of plant equipment and buildings. Copland was the Council's Chairman from 1958 to 1961.

Something of the work of the Council is reflected in Series 68, in particular its commissioned surveys. These included studies done by the Australian Sales Research Bureau Pty Ltd and Eric White and Associates (Vic.) Pty Ltd. The series also has circulars for Council members, some correspondence between Copland and L.A. Boult, N.O.C. Secretary, some cuttings, brochures, and some letters received in 1966 suggesting the N.O.C. be revived.

Immediate source of acquisition:
Lady Copland presented the personal papers of Sir Douglas Copland to the National Library in September 1973. Additions to the collection were received from the Copland Family between 1977 and 1981.
