Personnel Administration Management Consultants Pty Ltd, 1959-1971

Component identifier:
Series 77
Content Summary:

Personnel Administration Ltd was one of a number of companies which sought Copland's services as an economic adviser following his retirement from the Administrative Staff College in 1959. By December 1960 he was Chairman of Directors. After his work with the Trade Mission to North America and with the International Institute of Labour Studies, he was retained (from February 1962) as an adviser. His main work for P.A. Management Consultants Pty Ltd, as it was known after 1964, was the production of a monthly summary of economic indicators. Between 1962 and 1967 this was called Notes on the economic outlook and from September 1967 to January 1971, Economic notes.

The papers in Series 77 divide into two groups. There is firstly a small group of correspondence, memoranda, records of conversations, and other notes which document something of Copland's work for P.A. The main correspondents are P.A. executives, such as Jack Smith, J. Fletcher, and T.P. Bowman. The longer part consists of copies of the two newsletters, arranged in date order, together with the notes, reports, cuttings, speeches, press releases, and statistics Copland used.

Correspondence about payments for Copland's work as an Economic Adviser is held in Series 4.

Immediate source of acquisition:
Lady Copland presented the personal papers of Sir Douglas Copland to the National Library in September 1973. Additions to the collection were received from the Copland Family between 1977 and 1981.
