Australia Canada Association, 1956-1966

Component identifier:
Series 85
Content Summary:

The Australia Canada Association was formed in 1959 and based in Adelaide. It worked to foster Australian-Canadian relations, sponsored exchange visits, awarded scholarships, celebrated Canada's National Day, and organised Canada Weeks. Copland was a foundation member and Vice Chairman of its forerunner the Australian-Canadian Committee, and as a former High Commissioner to Canada, was one of the A.C.A.'s Patrons. Sir Owen Dixon, another former High Commissioner to Canada and a Canadian High Commissioner, E.W.T. Gill, were Co-Patrons.

Something of Copland's relations with the two groups can be traced in Series 85. It primarily consists of some Association circulars and correspondence with the A.C.A. President Mrs J.M. Harris and the Canadian diplomat T.W.L. MacDermot.

Immediate source of acquisition:
Lady Copland presented the personal papers of Sir Douglas Copland to the National Library in September 1973. Additions to the collection were received from the Copland Family between 1977 and 1981.
