During the 1960s Copland was associated with the Victorian Employers' Federation (V.E.F.) in several ways. From March 1960 he acted as its Economic Consultant and during the next seven years wrote articles for its publications, including the V.E.F. Service Letter. As a leading figure in the National Council for Balanced Development, the Committee for Economic Development of Australia, and the National Obsolescence Council, he also worked closely with the Federation.
The V.E.F. papers Copland gathered as a consultant form Series 87. They include correspondence with V.E.F. Secretary S.M. Gilmour and Vice President L. Arthur, copies and drafts of articles, 1961-1967, and some Victorian business statistics, 1965-1966. There is also material on two V.E.F. sponsored seminars, the International Congress on Human Relations (May 1965) and Management for Tomorrow - Peter Drucker (1966). A copy of The community development manual, published by the V.E.F. backed Develop Victoria Council in 1965, is also in Series 87.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- Lady Copland presented the personal papers of Sir Douglas Copland to the National Library in September 1973. Additions to the collection were received from the Copland Family between 1977 and 1981.
