Content Summary:

Correspondence received by Noonan from his family including his father John Noonan, his stepmother Gillian Noonan; his brother Stephen Noonan, his sisters Nora Beveridge and Patricia Smith; and his aunt and uncle Bill and Ann Moloney. There is also correspondence from other members of his extended family including Madge and Jackson Moloney, B.W. Moloney, Peggy Waring, Patricia Waring and Barbara Lawlor.

The series includes originals and copies of letters written by Noonan to his parents and Ann and Bill Moloney. The letters to his parents describe his voyage across the Tasman to Australia in 1940, his first impressions of Sydney, his seven months in the Franciscan Monastery at Waverley, and the impact of the Second World War.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were acquired by the Library from Michael Noonan in three instalments in 1979, 1992 and 1998.
