- Noonan began writing a fictional account of the life of the painter J.M.W. Turner as a radio play. The story evolved first into a film treatment, then into a novel (published by Barrie and Jenkins in 1973) and in 1975 as a full draft screenplay. As the radio, film and novel forms of the story are so closely related, they have been kept together in this sub-series.
