Extra-illustrated by Hal Gye by drawing in colour of C.J. Dennis depicted as a cupid, complete with wings, cap and pipe, with caption: 'The Sentimental Dennis, Hal Gye. Jan. 1950'. Together with autograph notes by Gye. He writes that the book was rejected by Robertson and Mullens, and Thomas C. Lothian, before it was offered to Angus Robertson Ltd. The Melbourne publishers refused the book because 'the public won't read slang'.

In the preceding copies, the glossary contains the words 'Top, off the'. There are no advertisements. Although specially mentioned by G.R. many of the ordinary copies were issued with the cover picture bound in.
