- With coloured drawing on end-paper by Hal Gye, depicting the poet and h is illustrator walking amongst the tall timbers of Toolangi. Long inscription accompanying: 'Dear Harry Chaplin: During the writing of this book 'Den' the bushman, the brown man of the forest, took me up among the giant trees and I felt a stranger. 'Den' was most dignified and addressed me almost as an inferior, so fine did he feel among the tall trees of his beloved forest. However, I recovered and spent many walks (and weeks) climbing up the mountains with him. Yours sincerely, Hal Gye, May 1954'.
