- Component identifier:
- Item 100
- Content Summary:
-
Autograph manuscript. 80pp. Fcp. The author's first draft. With frontispiece and illustrated title page drawn by the author.
Bound in citron half-morocco by Riviere.
In the introduction the author writes: 'A memory and account of the poet; of his doings before the publication of The sentimental bloke and to the end of his days'. This is a gossiping yarn by the artist of how 'Den' worked; the methods of his versification; and how he came by his ideas and carried them out. Nobody was more fitted to write of Dennis than his illustrator, who was also his friend and companion for so many years. The manuscript runs to approximately 45,000 words, and is uncompleted.
