Contains a long poem by C.J. Dennis, 'Son of a fool'. This is a reply to those who at that time were opposing the introduction of compulsory military training by the then Labour Government. The poem had appeared previously in the Bulletin. It is mentioned by Margaret Herron (Mrs Dennis) in her book Down the years. She has also annotated this copy.
In editorial comment: 'We draw attention to the powerful lines 'Son of a fool' ...lines that can only be addressed to the small and uninfluential minority who object to the working of the military system of Home Defence in the Commonwealth of Australia'.
