Dennis's review copy, used by him whilst engaged on The Herald, Melbourne. Upon end paper is long autograph note by Hal Gye. After comment upon his ancestor director of Covent Garden and his promotion of the music of Berlioz, mentioned muchly in the book by Heine, continues: '...Contrary to current opinion 'Den' was extremely well-read and could express himself fluently on the great poets. But in the company in which he often found himself (like the Birdnesters, for instance) he always kept his conversation down to the general intellectual level'.
