-
In 1987 Phyllis Boyd joined the Australian Family Association (AFA), which was founded in 1978 by a group of Christians concerned that traditional family values were being eroded by various groups in western society. In 1989 she was elected Vice-President of the Victorian Branch and from 1996 to 2000 was its President. Dr Joe Santamaria was the Association's National President.
Through her role in the AFA, Phyllis Boyd was involved in lobbying government bodies and organisations about issues which it was felt impacted on the role of the family. Such issues included the rights of the child, drug addiction, euthanasia, family allowances, homosexuality and pornography.
Contained in this series are papers relating to Phyllis Boyd's involvement with the AFA. They include correspondence, minutes of meetings, AFA press releases, copies of the AFA bulletin Family Update, pamphlets and other ephemera. Most of the papers were contained in files created by Phyllis Boyd and they have been kept intact. Related unfoldered papers have been listed chronologically.
