Content Summary:

The Victorian Fabian Society was established in 1947 to further the cause of socialism through meetings, lectures, discussion groups, publications and the promotion of research into political, economic and social problems. John Reeves was a foundation member of the Society and served as Secretary in 1948-50 and Chairman in 1956-66. He was also a member of the Federal Committee of Australian Fabian Societies and a member of the Constitutional Review Committee and the Research Committee.

The files are arranged roughly chronologically and contain correspondence, minutes, leaflets, notes, photocopies of articles, newsletters, pamphlets and other papers.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The collection was donated to the Library in two instalments by Reeves' son, Andrew Reeves under the Taxation Incentives for the Arts Scheme in 1995 and 2001.
