- Brown started corresponding with Nevill Coghill, Chaucerian scholar and theatre producer, because of a possible shared ancestry, as well as a shared interest in C. S. Lewis. Professor Coghill was Tutor in English Literature at Oxford from 1925 to 1957 and was Merton Professor of English Literature from 1957 to 1966. One of his main interests was translating Chaucer into modern English. He died in 1980.
