Correspondence, 1934-1985
- Component identifier:
- Series 1
- Content Summary:
-
William Macmahon Ball's correspondence files do not follow a clear-cut sequence. Many of the files have been re-used and the contents often bear no relation to the one or more titles which appear on the covers. Occasionally there are carbon copies of Ball's letters, and also many enclosures and some unrelated material. For the most part, file titles and dates listed below have been supplied by staff. The date ranges indicated below are often erratic and the correspondence does not cover all the years in the span. Nevertheless, file contents have not been disturbed, covers have been retained and Ball's file titles have been cited where relevant.
The general correspondence files have been arranged in rough chronological sequence, followed by files with topics. The descriptions below include names of some selected correspondents, but those names may also occur in other correspondence files. It should be remembered that letters also appear in other series, sometimes incidentally in unrelated files.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The collection was purchased in 1987 from Ball's widow, Katrine.
