Primarily manuscript and typescript drafts of poems by Gifford, including early works dating from his years at Scotch College in the 1930s, together with later poems. Gifford's published poetry collections include The glad season (1944) and The reluctant lover (1944).
This series also includes some typescript drafts and cuttings of reviews relating to Gifford's poems, together with reviews of such works as Norma L. Davis' poem I, the Thief (1944), which Gifford published through Arura Writers.
Drafts of Gifford's poems may also be found in Series 1, and related correspondence is held in Series 3.

- Immediate source of acquisition:
- Papers relating to the 1998 Constitutional Convention (now Series 8) were donated to the Library by Gifford in 1998. The remainder of the collection was donated by Gifford in 2002.
