Financial and legal papers, 1892-1930

Component identifier:
Series 2
Content Summary:

Correspondence, certificates, guarantees, minute books, cheque butts and receipts make up the series. They relate, in particular, to Fisher's life in Queensland and to his involvement in a number of cooperative investment schemes, the Truth Publishing Co. (of which Fisher was founding chairman) and the newspaper Gympie Truth. The paper was founded by Fisher as a reaction against Gympie's anti-Labor press which had been largely responsible for his defeat at the 1896 state elections. At Fisher's request, H. E. Boote became the paper's first editor.

The series also includes papers connected with isolated personal, financial and legal events which followed his move to national politics, and to Melbourne, in 1901.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were donated to the Library in several instalments by Fisher's family between 1961 and 1990.
