Manuscript music of some of Hutchens' compositions forms the major part of this series. Included are manuscript copies of vocal solos, school songs, choral works, piano solos, and chamber and orchestral music. These manuscript are generally not the final drafts of his works and show alterations Hutchens made during their composition. The series also includes printed copies of a few of Hutchens' compositions, as well as a song by his father, R.L. Hutchens, and two compositions by his brother, Will Hutchens.
A microfilm of manuscripts of three orchestral and chamber music compositions by Hutchens is held at mfm G 7705.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The Hutchens Papers were presented to the National Library by Mrs Joyce Hutchens and were received in three consignments in October 1967, November 1967 and January 1987.
