- Black-and-white photographs. Subjects include Australian alpine environments, snow gums, snow patches, snow hump behind human-made barrier of timber slats, fences, tussock grasses, rocks and boulders, standing males (including one with ski, one with rucksack). Condition of photos is variable. Most photos labelled on reverse variously as 2/-, 4/-, 6/-, 11/-, 14/-, 60/-, 62/-, 62/-, 63/-. Two photos labelled as "Blue Cow Transect: Autumn 59L: DJW". One photo labelled as " Plate 1: High mountain catchments, Tasmania, showing plateau-character typical of most Australian areas: 15919: Costin". One Photo numbered 17-38 (showing cattle in herbfield). Some photos damaged by sticking to other objects [photos?]. One unlabelled photo shows dead trees amongst snow patches. One photo torn [ripped from glued surface?] shows building and pipeline [Snowy Mountains scheme?]. Two photos stuck together. Photos enclosed in used buff CSIRO envelope labelled "Photos from Grazing and Transect Photos" and addressed to Mr C. Totterdell, P.I. Photography - forwarded". Envelope originally addressed to Dr Groves, Division of Plant Industry, CSIRO (address crossed out). Return address on envelope reads "Box 225, Dickson, A.C.T."

- This large and diverse collection was compiled by Alec Costin then organised and catalogued by the eScholarship Research Centre at The University of Melbourne from 2017-2019. The collection was then transferred to the National Library of Australia in 2020.
