Containers:
Box 18 (MS 10563)
Component identifier:
File 199
Content Summary:

Subjects include albatross, royal penguins, seals sunbaking, birds feeding on seal carcass, small huts, landscapes. One photo (of male standing at top of valley) appears as Figure 5A in the journal article by Selkirk, Costin et al. in file 194. Photo taken in 1958, according to article. Includes:

Contact print set in two parts (one large card and one strip). Images numbered as 36 on front and reverse of both parts. Images match photographs in this file. Both parts also numbered on reverse as 2/4 and 30. Images are paired, suggesting were shot in stereo, but second image is always darker.

Black-and-white photographs, labelled and numbered on reverse. Each photo numbered as 2/5.6/1 and "36". Photos match images in contact print set 36. Photo images are of good quality but some are stuck together at top right-hand corner.

Black-and-white photographs originally housed in buff Macquarie University envelope, with slip of lined paper labelled "36" and "30". Envelope labelled "Save as 36: 30: soaked prints". Photos numbered on reverse as 36/3-37 with some missing. One photo (numbered 36/36, royal penguin) does not match negatives or other sets in this file. Two photos, numbered 36/5 and 36/6 (showing bluff), look the same, suggesting they form a stereo pair. Numbering of photos in set is in different order to contact print set and negatives.

Black-and-white photographs originally contained in buff Macquarie University envelope labelled "Photographed: 36: 30. Also includes a smaller envelope labelled "Alec Costin: 1958". Many photos stuck to each other and one stuck to both the paper slip and to the smaller envelope. Two photos, numbered 36/5 and 36/6 (showing bluff), look the same, which suggests that they form a stereo pair.

Black-and-white negatives in six strips labelled "36: 30". Images correspond with photographs in this file.
