Content Summary:

2 sets of mostly labelled colour slides of various locations in Australian alpine regions. Originally housed in an unlabelled metal Kodaslide compartment file box. Index has two entries roughly corresponding two sets of slides stored in the box.

Set 1: National Geographic - This set contains assorted slides mainly of areas in the Australian Alps including Northcote, Snowy Valley, Island Bend, Mt Kosciuszko, Carruthers Peak, Tumut Valley. Also includes metallic-mounted slide with map. Subjects include, inter alia, burnt forest, dark clay band with wood, Jindabyne Valley after snowfall, block stream (volcano rock), possible moraine at Piper's Gap. Slides originally stored in compartments corresponding to entry in index which reads "National Geographic Chs".

Set 2: Flowers - This set contains assorted slides of locations and subjects including inter alia, Siemen's caravan camp, Kosciuszko summit, cold air drainage, snow gum, Long Plain, Alpine Ash, grassland layer at Waste Point, Island Bend, Snow effects, Corroboree Frog at Perisher Ck. Slides originally stored in compartment corresponding to entry in index which reads "Flowers: [illegible]".

Immediate source of acquisition:
This large and diverse collection was compiled by Alec Costin then organised and catalogued by the eScholarship Research Centre at The University of Melbourne from 2017-2019. The collection was then transferred to the National Library of Australia in 2020.
