In 1991 Lake suggested to Allen Unwin that they might publish a history of Australian feminism. She subsequently carried out research in libraries and archives for several years. Getting equal: the history of Australian feminism was published in 1999. The first general history of the women's movement in Australia, it covered the period from the 1890s until the late twentieth century.
Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers were purchased by the Library from Professor Marilyn Lake in two instalments, one in 1999 and one in 2004.
