Content Summary:

This series contains a small amount of miscellaneous correspondence. Main correspondents include Professor Bethune-Baker (Cambridge, 1919 and 1924); John Burton (1950); John Burgess; Ernest Burgmann, Bishop of Canberra and Goulburn (1935 and 1949-56); Sir Robert Garran (1948); Sir Isaac Isaacs (1931-32); David Stead (1955) and A.E. Wright (1947).

In 1953, Edwards was appointed as Senior Welfare Supervisor, Colombo Plan with the Department of External Affairs, Sydney and there is correspondence relating to his employment, which lasted only a matter of months. There are letters after this date in which Edwards sought employment within the church and expressed some concern that he was having difficulty finding work. In 1955 he was appointed acting Rector of St James Church, Sydney, to which position he was permanently appointed in June 1956.

In 1970 Hugh Gilchrist approached Jill Pulford regarding a book he was writing about Greek-Australian relations. She subsequently lent him material from this collection and there is correspondence relating to this project.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The papers of William John Edwards were donated to the Library by his son-in-law, Arthur Pulford, in 2003. The papers had been in the possession of Edwards' daughter, Jill Pulford, since 1967 and came to the Library following her death.
