Maisie and Russell Drysdale were part of Australia's art establishment and there are letters from prominent artists including Donald Friend, Hal Missingham, Noel Counihan and Jeffrey Smart. While some of the letters are brief, others contain references to the Australian art scene.
Following Russell Drysdale's death in 1981, the correspondence is very much related to the sale, gift, exhibition and reproduction of his works. Correspondents include regional and national art galleries and publishers and individuals requesting permission to reproduce Drysdale's work.
There is a small amount of early correspondence (1955-1957) relating to Maisie's career as a librarian, correspondence (1961) regarding the sale of Purves Smith works to the Queensland Art Gallery and a solicitor's letter (1971) referring to the estate of George Johnston with which Russell Drysdale had some connection. There are a large number of condolence cards and letters received following Russell Drysdale's death in 1981.
