Content Summary:

Pioneer, a property in northern Queensland, was established by Russell Drysdale's grandfather, George Russell Drysdale, after his arrival in Australia in 1875. It was the beginning of what was to evolve into a series of a pastoral and sugar mill companies known as The Pioneer Group. In 1947, Russell Drysdale was appointed to the Board of Pioneer Sugar Mills Ltd.

The papers in this series relate to a proposed reorganisation of the company during the period 1965-66. There are reports to Directors and the Chairman, minutes of meetings and a Profit and Loss Statement as at 31 December 1965. There is correspondence with solicitors relating to Drysdale's shares in the company and four copies of The Pioneer, (1970-71), the quarterly journal of The Pioneer Group, three of which feature sketches by Drysdale on the cover.
