Component identifier:
Series 15
Content Summary:

In 1955 a Senate Select Committee, set up to enquire into and report on the development of Canberra, recommended the establishment there of a National Art Gallery. The National Art Gallery Committee of Inquiry, of which Russell Drysdale was a member, was established by the Prime Minister, Robert Menzies, in 1965 to report on this recommendation. At its first meeting in October 1965, Sir Daryl Lindsay was elected Chairman.

This series contains official papers relating to the Inquiry. There are minutes of meetings, memoranda, submissions to the Committee by individuals and organisations, copies of government Acts relating to art galleries and a copy of the Committee's draft report.
